Taxpayers across the country have three extra days to turn in their tax returns this year thanks to a holiday in the District of Columbia.
The Internal Revenue Service announced Tuesday that taxpayers have until Monday April 18 to file 2010 tax returns because Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District, falls on Friday April 15, the traditional tax deadline. By law, the IRS must observe District holidays as it does federal holidays for tax filing purposes.
