Harley-Davidson CEO Not Intimidated By Polaris' Indian Launch At Sturgis


The Business Journal — After months of marketing hype with not-so-subtle digs at Harley-Davidson Inc., Polaris Industries Inc. will unveil the 2014 Indian Motorcycle on Aug. 3 at the year’s biggest motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D.
       Medina, Minn.-based Polaris, a powersports vehicle manufacturer, has a lot riding on the revamp of America’s oldest motorcycle brand. It’s on track to have an estimated 200 dealers in place by the end of the year, including between 125 and 140 in the U.S., according to a Wednesday research note from Robert W. Baird & Co. Inc. financial analyst Craig Kennison.
       That infrastructure could support an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 motorcycle shipments in 2013, Kennison said.
