STURGIS — Although the city of Sturgis and the state of South Dakota benefit from additional tax revenue earned during the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally, Meade County resident Gene McPherson said the county is missing out.
At last week's Meade County Commission meeting, McPherson proposed a temporary 1 percent sales tax increase.
The plan would create a 1 percent sales tax for three weeks within a 5-mile area near Interstate 90 and S.D. Highway 34 to the Belle Fourche River. Any added sales tax would need to be approved by the state Legislature.
