Big Bear Choppers, Back From Sturgis Report

Sturgis went well for us, It started out bad when Kevin went down on a bike avoiding a deer and broke his clavicle plus road rash, but fortunately Kevin wears a full face helmet that saved his life, the front of it was broken off during the hit, our salesman actually hit the deer and managed to pull over, everyone but the deer is okay. Kevin still managed to win the Baker Drivetrain Smoke down showdown two nights in a row. First person to 5th gear, with or without a hurt shoulder won and Kevin beat out  15 other Industry professionals.

We were  happy with our spot at the AMD lot but it wasn't more crowded than it has been in the years past. The foot traffic was about the same as last year. We will definitely consider another spot next year, a ride-in spot with street frontage is the way to go in Sturgis, people want to choice to be able to ride in without parking and walking.

I have to say that Sturgis is the best event I have ever been to when it comes to riding and sights, you can't beat the Black Hills, Rushmore, Deadwood, the history there is amazing.  The excitement that was created by the Master Builders and the drama that was brought in by the troublemakers is all but gone, with the exception of a few scattered parties and up and coming builders trying to make a name for themselves the demographics have definitely changed. The manufacturers are there and everyone is just trying to hang on, it was great to run into Arlen Ness, Donny Smith and Sugar Bear and catch up with them. It is just not cost effective for many of us to take the Tractor trailers and employees across country to Sturgis and I saw a lot of Builders there without a company presence, but it shows that they are still in the Industry and that is important.

The public still wants the bikes, they love the Bear Bones, its affordable luxury and comfortable ride made it our best seller in Sturgis. The banks need to start lending again and give this economy the boost it needs, we could have sold more  motorcycles if the banks were lending, but that is a whole other conversation.
